Notes could not find your ID file on the server

“Notes could not find the ID on the server” when trying to download an ID from the ID Vault of the Domino server.

This is one of those errors that first makes you think that the ID Vault NSF database is corrupted or has corrupted view indexes. Do not waste your time with an UPDALL -R or a CAMPACT -c, the database will most likely be fine.



What is wrong is the relationship between the ID Vault, the “Settings” document of the ID Vault policy and its relationship to the Domain. It is quite possible that each of these things on their own are fine and in my case, honestly, I don’t know where the broken link is, but the solution is easy.

Just change the ID Vault password and this resets the connection between the ID Vault, the policy document and the domain.
